Transportation Department Web Page
Peotone Schools Transportation Department vehicles logged approximately 500,000 miles providing services for students during the 2006 - 2007 school year.
The transportation fleet is comprised of 23-71 passenger conventional school buses, 5 school bus vans, 3 with wheel chair lifts; 4 Ford Windstar Vans and 2 School Bus designed activity vans. Each of these vehicles passes the required Illinois Department of Transportation Safety Inspection at the mandated intervals.
Currently there are 32 regular and substitute drivers employed by the district. Each driver holds a current Commercial Driver’s License and a current Illinois School Bus Permit.
To obtain an Illinois School Bus Permit each driver must:
· Pass a fingerprint investigation by the Illinois State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
· Pass a physical that includes a drug screen.
· Successfully pass a School Bus Driver Training Class sponsored by the Illinois State Board of Education.
· Successfully pass written and behind the wheel tests as mandated by the Illinois Secretary of State.
The Illinois School Bus Permit is renewed annually after:
· Successfully completing continued education through a class sponsored by the Illinois State Board of Education.
· Passing a physical that includes a drug screen.
All transportation employees are enrolled in a random testing program for drugs and alcohol as mandated by the Federal Government.

BUS ASSIGNMENTS
Bus assignments for High School and Junior High students will be mailed during the second week of August 2006.
All Elementary School bus assignments and bus assignments for the Connor Shaw Center will be posted at these building on August 15, 2006.
ALTERNATE TRANSPORTATION ARRANGEMENTS
All eligible students will be assigned transportation to and from their home address. Requests for transportation to or from another location must be submitted in writing to the student’s building principal.
Only requests made in writing will be considered.
STUDENTS IN GRADES K-2
In order to insure the safety of younger children we ask that a responsible person be at the bus stop for children in grades K-2. If you will have an older sibling be responsible for your child in grades K-2, please make us aware of this in writing. Children in grades K-2 will be returned to their respective school if we are unable to deliver them safely. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter.
