The Office

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Once again, I have the opportunity to welcome you to a new school term. It is a great experience for me to inform you of the educational experiences at our school. Faculty, staff, administration, Board of Education, parents, and community work together to create an environment that encourages learning. For many school terms, our State Report Card has reported 100% parental contact. Through this positive approach to assisting us as children learn, our climate is strengthened. We extend our appreciation to our families for working with us to help our students "grow" in knowledge.

During this school term, a Math series is being piloted at the elementary level. Everyday Math(University of Chicago)allows students to problem solve and to utilize critical thinking skills. Through this "hands-on" approach to reaching solution to a problem, multiple approaches are in place for completion of the problem. While the emphasis remains on solving the problem, students are encouraged to be creative in their thinking process. This approach will lead to students being able to find solution in daily mathematical experiences. A Parent Reference Handbook is available and may be requested through our office.

Running records in the content of reading are being used to assess students' level of success in reading. Through assessment, teacher observation, and staff development, curriculum can be designed and planned to match the needs of our students. Individual progress in performance will be measured throughout the school term. Vocabulary development, comprehension of content, and enjoyment of literature lead to success and growth in reading.

The term will pass quickly. It is an exciting time in the life of your children, our students. We combine a team approach to enable your children to find success at school. If at any time, questions or concerns may arise, please contact our office. A conference may be set to determine the cause of your concern. I look forward to your continued support, cooperation, and interest as it has been in past years. Thank you for being an integral part of the process as we work together for success!

Respectfully,
Diane L. Hattendorf, Principal
