Spanish I
Grade: 9-12 2 Sem. 1 Credit Prereq: None
Spanish I is an elective course for students who would like to be able to communicate in Spanish. The course consists of listening, speaking, reading, and writing activities which promote communication. Culture is introduced with discussions and activities in cur-rent events and history.
Spanish II
Grade: 10-12 2 Sem. 1 Credit Prereq: Spanish I (with a grade of “C” or higher) within prior two years or teacher approval
Spanish II is an elective course for students who have successfully completed Spanish I. The course is a continuation of Spanish I with emphasis on reading and writing skills and expanding the listening and speaking skills previously learned. Multicultural aspects of Spanish, Hispanic-American life will be emphasized.
Spanish III
Grade: 11-12 2 Sem. 1 Credit Prereq: Spanish II the prior year with a “C” or higher or teacher approval
Spanish III is an elective course focusing on the development of Spanish language through communication. Advanced grammar and composition are emphasized, as well as speaking and listening skills. Cultural aspects of Hispanic-American life will be emphasized.
Spanish IV
Grade: 11-12 2 Sem. 1 Credit Prereq: Spanish III the prior year with a “C” or higher or teacher approval
This is an elective advanced course in Spanish Literature. Using Spanish and Hispanic novels and short stories, students will learn about grammar, composition and culture. Active class participation further develops speaking and listening skills.
Spanish V
Grade: 12 2 Sem. 1 Credit Prereq: “B” average or higher in Spanish IV
This is an elective course emphasizing the mastery and use of the language. Conducted entirely in Spanish, this class will continue to develop the students into fluent speakers of the language. Using literature as the text, students will focus on grammar and vocabulary acquisition. Students have the option of taking the AP Spanish Literature and/or AP Spanish Language tests in the spring.
