ROLL CALL
At 7:00 p.m. President Bettenhausen called the regular meeting to order and requested all present to stand and recite the Pledge of Allegiance. A roll call was taken and the following members answered aye: Mrs. Robinson, Mr. Nugent, Mr. Virgl, Mr. Rademacher and Mr. Bettenhausen. Mr. Moore arrived at 7:01 p.m. Mr. Baumgartner was absent.

MINUTES
Mr. Nugent made a motion to approve the Minutes of the Special Meeting and Executive Session of December 13, 2010, Minutes of the Committee as a Whole of December 20, 2010, Minutes of the Truth-In-Taxation Hearing of December 20, 2010, and Minutes of the Regular Meeting and Executive Session of December 20, 2010. Mr. Virgl seconded the motion and on a voice vote there were six (6) ayes and no nays.
FINANCE REPORTS
Mr. Nugent made a motion to approve the Treasurer’s Report as presented by the administration. Mrs. Robinson seconded the motion and on a roll call vote the following members answered aye: Mr. Virgl, Mr. Nugent, Mrs. Robinson, Mr. Rademacher, Mr. Moore and Mr. Bettenhausen.
Mr. Virgl made a motion to approve the January Imprest Fund Bills as presented by the administration. Mr. Nugent seconded the motion and on a roll call vote the following members answered aye: Mr. Virgl, Mr. Nugent, Mrs. Robinson, Mr. Rademacher, Mr. Moore and Mr. Bettenhausen.

ACADEMIC STUDENT OF THE MONTH
President Bettenhausen recognized the January Board of Education Academic Student of the Month, Michaela Minock, daughter of Michael and Karen Minock of Peotone. Michaela was not able to attend the January Board Meeting and will be honored at the February Regular Board of Education Meeting to be held on February 21, 2011.

VISITOR SPEAKERS
Melody Gass of Monee expressed her joy that the petition papers were not filed. Mrs. Gass requested that before the district cuts the number of aides per building that they look at the dynamics of the situation and assess not only the needs of the teachers but the needs of the students.
S.O.W.I.C. AMENDMENTS OF THE ARTICLES OF AGREEMENT
Dr. McKinney explained the amendments to the S.O.W.I.C. Articles of Agreement. Mr. Nugent made a motion to approve the resolution approving amendments to the Articles of Agreement for the Southern Will County Cooperative for Special Education. Mrs. Robinson seconded the motion and on a roll call vote the following members answered aye: Mr. Virgl, Mr. Nugent, Mrs. Robinson, Mr. Rademacher, Mr. Moore and Mr. Bettenhausen.
2010-2011 SENIORITY LIST
Mr. Virgl made a motion to approve the 2010-2011 Certified Seniority List. Mrs. Robinson seconded the motion and on a roll call vote the following members answered aye: Mr. Virgl, Mr. Nugent, Mrs. Robinson, Mr. Rademacher, Mr. Moore and Mr. Bettenhausen.
EXECUTIVE SESSION MINUTES (July-December, 2010)
Mr. Nugent made a motion to keep the Executive Session Minutes from July, 2010 through December, 2010 closed. Mr. Rademacher seconded the motion and on a voice vote there were six (6) ayes and no nays.
DESTRUCTION OF EXECUTIVE SESSION TAPES (July, 2008-August, 2009
Mr. Nugent made a motion to approve Destruction of Executive Session Tapes from July, 2008 through August 2009. Mr. Rademacher seconded the motion and on a voice vote there were six (6) ayes and no nays.
ISSUANCE OF HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA
Mr. Rademacher made a motion to approve the issuance of a high school diploma to Jacob Lawrence Benjamin. Mr. Virgl seconded the motion and on a voice vote there were six (6) ayes and no nays.
2011-2012 HIGH SCHOOL COURSE CHANGES
Mr. Preuss reviewed briefly for the board the high school course changes that were presented for consideration at the December 20, 2010 Board of Education Meeting. Mr. Virgl made a motion to approve the 2011-2012 high school course changes as presented by the administration. Mr. Rademacher seconded the motion and on a roll call vote the following members answered aye: Mr. Virgl, Mr. Nugent, Mrs. Robinson, Mr. Rademacher, Mr. Moore and Mr. Bettenhausen.

BOARD POLICY CHANGES
President Bettenhausen requested that the Board review the changes to the Board Policies as they will be reviewed at the February Committee as a Whole.
REFERENDUM
Dr. McKinney reported that Vicki Moore of the Community Finance Committee will be chairing the efforts of the referendum campaign. Dr. McKinney stressed that it will be very important to solidify the language of the referendum. Dr. McKinney read the referendum question that will appear on the ballot for those present. He stipulated that the referendum question is tax neutral. Mrs. Rose stated that the taxpayers EAV will be increased but the tax rate will not be increased.
BOARD GOALS
President Bettenhausen stated that the Board has had goals in the past and this subject should be revisited after the new board has been seated. Dr. McKinney stated that the Board may discuss this topic in Executive Session or at a Board Retreat.
BUSINESS MANAGER REPORT
Ms. Rose reported that the state currently owes the district approximately $l.28 million. A breakdown has been posted on the business office website and is available to the public for viewing. Ms. Rose continued to report the RFQ’s for school auditor have been received and reviewed. It is the recommendation of the administration to stay with Gassensmith & Associates. Ms. Rose reported that she is currently working on the 2011-2012 budget. The CPI has been released for the levy. The rate will be 1.5%. Ms. Rose reported that she will invest the working cash fund revenue when the state begins paying the district on time.
CURRICULUM REPORT
Mrs. Davis and Mr. Preuss reported that the buildings are currently reviewing Winter Benchmark assessments. AimsWeb assessment will begin in the next week. Mrs. Davis reported that Jill Ostby, Kindergarten Teacher at Wilton Center, was a target grant winner. Mr. Preuss shared supporting data in support of the inception of the proposed reading programs at the high school level.
ADMINISTRATIVE REPORTS
Mr. Preuss presented the administrative report for Deanna Oliver. The Guidance Department has developed an ACT Prep Class based on Excel Edge which will be taught by the high school teachers. The class will be offered at a cost of $70.00 to the high school students. Junior and senior registration will begin on January 19, 2011.
Ms. Nicks reported that 41 out of 66 students made High Honors this semester. There will be an awards assembly to honor the students that were awarded High Honors and Honor Roll. Peotone Elementary used the School Improvement Day to develop formal goals. The objective for the teachers is to make a list of items that make Peotone Elementary a great school and any thoughts on how to improve Peotone Elementary.
Mrs. Hiller reported that Christmas came early to three (3) lucky students at Wilton Center. Lens Crafters donated three (3) pairs of glasses to three (3) lucky students. A positive behavior program has been implemented at Wilton Center Elementary. This program is similar to the program at Green Garden Elementary where students are encouraged to exhibit positive behavior in all aspects of the school environment, including hallways, lunchroom, in and outside of the classrooms and on the bus. The Wilton Center Pancake Breakfast and Silent Auction are scheduled for January 30, 2011 from 10:30 a.m. through 12:30 a.m. in the Wilton Center Elementary gymnasium. The community is welcome to attend. Mrs. Hiller continued that Mr. Nagra will be bringing history alive on February 11, 2011 with a visit from President
Washington, President Lincoln and President Jefferson.
Mrs. Hiller reported that the Green Garden homework lab is reporting continued improvements. The after-school reading program supervised by Mrs. Puchkors is offered to all students free of charge. Ms. LaMorte has been asked to give a presentation on “How to Use the Smart Board in Classrooms” at the State Capital.
Mrs. Davis reported that the Bug Award will be given to any student that has worked hard to increase their grades but cannot make Honor Roll. The Music Department has begun their oral reports. The student posters will soon be covering the wall outside of the music department.
Mr. Wenzel reported that the Junior High School conducted their Geography Bee on January 18, 2011. The ten (10) finalists will battle it out for a chance to attend the Geography Bee held in Chicago at the Field Museum. Eric Moreno, Seventh Grade, will advance to the finals. Mrs. Schlickman has been working on an anti-bullying program with the junior high girls. The program is going well and there are plans to begin an anti-bullying program for the junior high boys.
Peotone Junior High School has been working on a school newspaper. Students must create a resume, apply and interview for the positions on the newspaper. The first edition was included in the board update. Mr. Wenzel continued to report that it has been a good year for many of the athletic clubs at Peotone Junior High School. The regional tournaments will begin shortly.
SUPERINTENDENT REPORT
Dr. McKinney reported that he attended and enjoyed the Educational Foundation Bowling Night. He continued that he will be meeting with the teachers at each school. The teachers will be able to present their questions or concerns. Dr. McKinney stated that he has been working with the administrators and Barb Rizzo to lengthen the school day at Wilton Center and Green Garden Elementary in order to equalize the school day throughout the school district. Peotone Elementary students receive 20 minutes more in instructional time compared to the country schools. Dr. McKinney hopes to have this rectified by the end of the 2010-2011 school year.
EXECUTIVE SESSION
At 7:59 p.m. Mr. Nugent moved that the Board meet in Executive Session for the purpose of the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of other specific employees of the public body, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee to determine its validity. Mrs. Robinson seconded the motion and on a voice vote there were six (6) ayes and no nays.
RETURN TO OPEN SESSION
At 8:56 p.m. Mr. Nugent made a motion that the Board Return to Open Session. Mr. Virgl seconded the motion and on a voice vote there were six (6) ayes and no nays.
