Announcing Donated Orthodontic Services

As school nurses you are very aware of children in your school with oral health care needs, but they may not have insurance or qualify for orthodontic services under their dental insurance or Medicaid.  The Illinois Society of Orthodontists and the American Association of Orthodontists are pleased to announce a new pilot program in Illinois.  Donated Orthodontic Services!  Through the program, volunteer orthodontists will provide pro bono (free!) orthodontic care (braces) to children in need.


It is designed for children who need orthodontic care but are not able to afford it. Participating orthodontists will be donating one or two cases per year to help children in their communities.  No fees will be charged to families who qualify for the program.

Requirements for participation:

  • Patients must be a resident of the state of Illinois  
  • Prospective patients must not already be in braces or in between phases of treatment  
  • Patients must be between the ages of 11-18  
  • In general, families must be "working poor" and/or Medicaid eligible  
  • Patients must be ineligible for orthodontic treatment through insurance or public aid, such as the All Kids program
